SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Woodwork Institute recently named the 2025 winning projects of the Ralph B. McClure Craftsmanship Award and Bernard B. Barber Jr. Award for Excellence.
Child, Teen & Family Center and Nancy Friend Pritzker Psychiatry Building at the University of California in San Francisco was honored with the McClure Craftsmanship Award. The project was fabricated by Northwestern Design of Grants Pass, Oregon. The award also recognizes the contributions of ZGF Architects of Seattle, in cooperation with Perkins & Will, and Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction of San Francisco.
One award judge called the project “Exceptional blending of colors of all millwork.” Another judge called it, “A great example of installation being well scribed-in.”
The Barber Award for Design Excellence was awarded to Sunnyvale City Hall in Sunnyvale, California, designed by SmithGroup architects. Fabrication was performed by Towne Millwork of Abbotsford, British Columbia. ISEC Inc. of Pleasanton, California, served as a subcontractor on the project. Hensel Phelps Construction was the general contractor.
“Execution of this level of difficulty in making all the radiuses, with all the different materials, was Impressive,” commented one judge. “Showcases the hardest degree of difficulty,” opined another.
To be eligible, projects had to be certified through the Woodwork Institute’s Certified Compliance Program or Monitored Compliance Program.
